Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant central nervous system tumor in children, accounts for 15-20 percent of pediatric brain tumors, and usually occurs in children between the ages of 4 and 10. The long-term side effects of treatment include hearing loss related to chemotherapy, loss of height secondary to the radiation and in some patients, endocrine dysfunction from irradiation of the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. In case of relapse the survival rate is only 20%. MUSC Children’s Hospital is currently developing more effective, less toxic treatments for relapsed medulloblastoma. All funds from The Angel Walk will be donated to MUSC Children’s Hospital to support research of medulloblastoma and to find a cure for these precious children. The Angel Walk is for children facing a devastating diagnosis and in memory of a little boy who left us too soon but whose spirit and smile will always be with us.
